Tanning FAQs

Ready to get beautifully bronzed with Sunescape Tan but have a few questions before getting started? Find below a list of our most frequently asked questions & hopefully you will find your answer to any question you might have. If you can't find an answer to your question, please don't hesitate to reach out to us via our chat feature or at info@sunescape.com.au.
  • I applied a bit too much tan – what should I do?

Massage some body oil (you can also use coconut oil or olive oil) into the skin and rinse off with warm water. Oil causes the DHA in the tan to break down faster, helping your tan fade to your desired shade, or allowing you to start over.
  • My tan is patchy in places – how can I fix this?

Follow these steps to achieve a flawless tan, sans patchiness! Ensure you remove any remnants of old tan using our Exfoliating Body Polish and Tan Removal Mitt in the shower. Moisturise dry areas such as elbows, knees, ankles and wrists with a pea-sized amount of Sunescape Hydrating Body Butter prior to tan application. While tanning, keep your exfoliating mitt and some soapy water close by to gently massage out any dark patches of tan.
  • Which Sunescape product should I start with?

We have both at home and in-salon tanning products. For at-home application, we recommend our bestselling Instant Self-Tan Mousse. If you’re a tanning newbie, we suggest starting with our Gradual Tan Extender so you can build the depth of your tan gradually over time to find what suits you.
  • How soon can I get dressed after applying fake tan?

Our Instant Self-Tan Mousse is non-sticky and quick drying, so you can get dressed after just 10 minutes!
  • How long will it take for my tan to develop?

Our Instant Self-Tan Mousse develops in minutes, but for a deeper, longer lasting colour we recommend leaving on for 4-5 hours before showering.
  • I've got an event tomorrow night – which tan should I use?

For events, we recommend applying our Instant Self-Tan Mousse the night before and washing it off in the morning for a rich, bronzed glow. If you’re short on time, apply our Instant Wash-Off Mousse 5-10 minutes before dressing for your event. The colour will stay flawless all night, until you’re ready to wash it off.
  • Which is your fastest instant tan?

Our Instant Wash-Off Mousse can be applied in minutes, and it’s transfer resistant, so you can get dressed in just 5-10 minutes without staining your clothes. Best of all, you can wash this tan off in the shower when you’re done!
  • I want to get a Sunescape spray tan – which shade should I go with?

We offer four spray tan shades – Weekend in Bondi (light), Week in Fiji (medium), Month in Maui (dark) and Summer in Santorini (ultra dark). Our most popular spray tan shade is Week in Fiji, but for pale skin beauties or tanning newbies we recommend starting with Weekend in Bondi before trying out a darker shade.
  • What’s the base colour of your tans?

Our at-home tanning products are all green based, except for the Instant Wash-Off Mousse, which is violet based. Our spray tan solutions are green based, except for Summer in Santorini, which is violet based.
  • Is Sunescape Tan vegan?

Yes, all our products are vegan.
  • Is Sunescape Tan tested on animals?

No, none of our products have been tested on animals and Sunescape Tan is opposed to animal testing.
  • Can Sunescape Tan be used during pregnancy?

Yes! Just remember the tanning solution does not contain any SPF sun protection, so ensure that an approved SPF is worn prior to sun exposure. The DHA won’t harm your baby and when our mousse is rubbed onto your skin, DHA doesn’t go beyond the top cell layer. This means the DHA is not absorbed into your system. As your skin is constantly renewing itself, the fake tan fades as the skins cells are shed. However, if you use a fake tan spray or a spray-tanning booth, then you may inhale some of the DHA or erythrulose. Therefore, we always recommend our clients to wear a mask and if pregnant, we would recommend you to speak to your doctor first, or use our Instant-Self Tan Mousse, Gradual Tan Extender. We also have a DHA free range of wash off tanning solutions.
  • How long will be tan last?

Depending on your pre and post tan care, as well as your natural skin types – results will vary. Although, 5-7 days is the general length that your tan should last. If you prepare your skin prior to tanning and regularly moisturise post tan, it could last longer. We would also recommend using a sulphate-free body wash such as our Hydrating Shower Gel to avoid any chemicals stripping your tan.
  • Can I swim in my tan?

Of course! Please be aware that chlorine, other chemicals and heating used in some swimming pools may decrease the life of your tan.
